  • 0.5 cup 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp 2 tablespoons French dressing
  • 1 tbsp 1 tablespoon pickle relish
  • 1 tsp 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 0.5 tsp 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Prep and special sauce
  1. Preheat the oven to 350F and spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray, so it’s ready for assembly.
  2. Whisk together the mayonnaise, French dressing, pickle relish, minced onion, vinegar, sugar, and salt until smooth and pourable to make the special sauce.
Brown the beef
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and finely chopped onion, breaking up the meat, until browned and the onions are soft, seasoning with salt and pepper.
Assemble and bake
  1. Place the bottom halves of the slider buns in the prepared dish and spread a thin layer of special sauce over the cut sides.
  2. Top with the browned beef mixture, then arrange the American cheese slices and dill pickle slices over the top.
  3. Bake at 350F for 8-10 minutes, just until the cheese is melted and the layers are hot.
  4. Remove from the oven and top with shredded lettuce and more special sauce for crisp, fresh contrast.
  5. Add the top buns, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For the best texture, keep the lettuce for the final topping so it stays crisp after baking. Store leftover sliders covered in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven at 325F until warmed through (microwave softens buns). Freezing is not recommended because buns and lettuce lose texture. For a lower-fat option, use lean ground beef and reduced-fat mayonnaise in the special sauce.
